The Novice Riders Race was this week restricted to ponies 138cms and under and a full house of 10 ponies went down to the start. Once off, the riders were quite quickly spread out with Covenham Generation (George Crate), Springcroft Red Admiral (Martin Otway), Balfour Tia Dora (Josh Thompson), Barndale Playtime (Chloe Durken) and Ninfields Millionaires (Hugo Pearson-Wood) breaking away from the remainder of the field and going on. As the riders approached the final bend these five all remained in contention. George Crate kicked on at this point and was an easy winner from Martin in second, Joshua 3rd and Chloe 4th. The distances were 2 lengths and half a length. All the novice riders rode with extremely impressive style and it was particularly commented on how well mannered the children were at the start – well done to you all.
The Open Race had 6 runners and all were larger ponies. These experienced jockeys jumped off with impressive speed and 3 broke quickly away . The already double winning Flash 1V (Lizzy Norman) looked to be having an easy ride against Tenants Super (Aaron Chave) and Fleeting Image (Oswald Wedmore). As they turned for home Fleeting Image was found to be struggling with the pace and Lizzy and Aaron soon drove well clear. Although already flat to the boards, Tenants Super was not for giving in and it was almost impossible to split the two leaders as they approached the line. Despite losing his entire leather and iron at the corner Aaron rode very courageously to prevail by a neck. Ozzy finished 3rd a distance behind with Clementine Richardson 4th, Heidi Sellar 5th and George Gorman on the heavy weight Jack a very popular 6th.
Well done to everyone at Godstone on Sunday, 2nd March – it was super to have such well behaved and polite jockeys taking part. We hope everyone enjoyed themselves.
If however you do have a complaint, criticism or suggestion please, please do make yourselves known to Helen Sarchet direct (see South East Area Website: http://www.pointingse.com/) and we will do our utmost to quickly resolve any upsets.
With regard to the course walking, please note that the children are accompanied by experienced jockeys, who can give them the best advice on riding each course.
Where a jockey parent has kindly volunteered to walk the course with the children they are never with their own child’s group. If you do have problems in the paddock and are subsequently accompanied to the start without prior permission, please could parents make sure that they disappear from the start immediately? Our experienced start team is extremely capable of handling any “fizzy” pony and it is dangerous and against the rules to have extra adults on the ground.
See you all at Detling!
