At last the sun shone on the south east and the ground was drying up! Saturday at Peper Harrow saw the finals for the jockeys who started the season as novices or who had not won a race on a new pony at the season's start. Nine went to post for the 138cm and under race which involved a very tightly fought finish between Tabitha Worsley on Pennway Tapdance and the ever-improving Covenham Generation and George Crate. Tabitha managed to get up by half a length to claim the Novice under 138cm title. Hugo Pearson Wood was third by 5 lengths on Ninfield Millionaires Delight. Another nine jockeys lined up for the 148cm and under race. Unfortunately Gemma Cobb was unseated whilst travelling very well so leaving the door open for Maryann Cushen (Strongbow) and Jake Wright (Turtle Project) to take up the running. Maryann made easy work of this and won by 8 lengths from Jake, with Elliot Pickering third. Some lost stirrup irons after the line accounted for a further couple of loose ponies but we are pleased to report that all jockeys were in one piece.
